I currently teach ויקרא-במבדר/ Leviticus-Numbers and שמואל-תהילים/ Samuel-Psalms to 10th grade students. Please see showcased projects and rubrics available below.
The Michal Project
In this project, students were asked to reflect on the life of Michal, daughter of King Saul. Michal's life is tragic- and students were asked to map it out with a special focus on considering the different interpretations of her second marriage to Palti ben Layish. They had to choose the one they found most compelling. Students were permitted to write a personal reflection, a newspaper article, or create a diary or scrapbook. One way this could be fulfilled was through the use of Adobe Spark. Here is a link to an Adobe Spark project created by Daphna Czako '20. Please click here to view instructions and rubric for this assessment.
Nazir Shampoo Bottle Design Project
In this project, students were asked to to design shampoo bottles to cater to נזירים. Nazirites are individuals who accept certain restrictions and limitations upon themselves in order to live more devoted and spiritual lives. (One of these involves not cutting hair- hence the shampoo bottle idea). Below please find pictures of shampoo bottles designed by Shirelle Borochov '18, Kayla Glass '18, Ariel Eisenstein '18, Shayna Holman '18 and Danielle Burstyn '18. Sotah Infographic
In this project, students were asked to take information we learned together as a class about סוטה, the allegedly adulterous Jewish wife, and place it within the format of an infographic. They used Piktochart to accomplish this. Kayla Bulgatz '17 did an excellent job and her work is showcased below (please click the image to see the full infographic). Sotah Choose-your-own-adventure
In this PBL-inspired assessment, students were permitted to choose whether they wished to take a test, write a paper or create a project on the topic of Sotah. Several students chose the option of creating a choose-your-own-adventure project. Yaakov Rosenberg '20 used InkleWriter to create a developed, excellent and accurate explanation of how a woman would proceed through the process of her Sotah trial (in accordance with Maimonides' Mishneh Torah). SOTAH InTERACTIVE vIDEO
In this updated version of the Sotah Choose-Your-Own-Adventure (see updated assessment & rubric here), students created interactive videos using Eko Studio where the viewer can select various choice points in order to see where the Sotah process leads them. Below are several examples:
מרים & לשון הרע Social Media PROJECT
In this project, students were asked to convert פרק יב of במדבר, which tells the story of מרים & אהרון's לשון הרע about משה, into a modern day version encompassing social media. Students generated fake Snapchats, iPhone messages, Tweets, Facebook posts and Whatsapp messages in order to tell the tale. Below please see Ariel Eisenstein '18, Shayna Holman '18 and Danielle Burstyn '18's social media project. Please click here to view instructions and rubric.
מרגלים Point of View Project
In this project, students were asked to take information learned together about the מרגלים, spies appointed by Moshe & God to search out the land of Israel, and create character charts documenting individual characters' journeys and points of view. Characters included יהושע, כלב, משה, God and any of the evil spies. The character charts featured both QR Codes and Auras created with Aurasma. This way, when the project was concluded, one could scan those QR Codes and Auras in order to experience the entire spy story from that particular character's point of view. Please click here for a link to Kayla Bulgatz 17's character chart documenting the adventure of Zebulun, an evil spy. Please click here to view instructions and rubric.
Campaign Poster for Korach
In this project, students were asked to identify the main principles of קרח's campaign as understood by traditional commentaries and Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik. They then designed campaign posters for קרח using Canva. Below please see Sam Shoshani 17's work (you may click here for a larger version). Please click here to view instructions and rubric.
